Like other professionals District Court judges are supported in their role by ongoing education. Te Kura Kaiwhakawā Institute of Judicial Studies (Te Kura)(external link) is the education arm of the New Zealand Judiciary and provides judicial education and support for New Zealand judges through seminars and online resources.

Te Kura also publishes a number of publicly available Bench Books(external link) which bring together up-to-date case law and statutes, legal commentary and practice directions for judges and judicial officers.
These include the District Court Bench Book, the Family Court Bench Book, the Youth Court Bench Book, the Criminal Jury Trials Bench Book, the Sexual Violence Trials Bench Book and the Family Violence Bench Book.
