R v Tangira [2019] NZDC 3101

Sentencing — "Operation Notus" — supply methamphetamine — drug offending — Class A — possession of methamphetamine for supply — sentencing indication — R v Fatu [2006] 2 NZLR 72. The defendant appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty, following a sentencing indication, on charges of supplying methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine for supply. The defendant had been charged as part of "Operation Notus" in relation to approximately 110 grams of methamphetamine. The Judge adopted a starting point of 66 months in the sentencing indication but granted a discount of 10 percent for the defendant's remorse and his desire to serve his sentence and return to his family. The defendant also received the full 25 percent discount for his guilty plea, bringing the end sentence to three years and nine months' imprisonment. Judgment Date: 21 February 2019.
