Importing —dealing with controlled drugs — class A — methamphetamine — Misuse of Drugs Act 1975, s 6(1)(a). The defendant appeared for sentencing on one charge of importing methamphetamine, a class A controlled drug. The charge carries a sentence of up to life imprisonment under the Act. The defendant was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with a minimum parole period of 5 years. The defendant and three associates had travelled from Taiwan to New Zealand where, at Auckland International Airport, customs officers found 9.11 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in suitcases.
