Possession of methamphetamine for supply — large quantity of money found — R v Fatu  2 NZLR 72 (CA) — R v Lam  NZHC 1713.
The defendant was sentenced for the possession of 2.4kg of methamphetamine for supply. The defendant also had $1.7 million in cash which the court accepted was a "float" intended to fund further purchases of methamphetamine, which the court treated as an aggravating factor at sentencing. The court applied discounts for the defendant's personal circumstances including character references, time spent on curfewed bail and guilty plea. The defendant was sentenced to nine years and five months' imprisonment with a minimum period of imprisonment of 50 percent.
